Lakeshore Entertainment is the name of an American film company specializing in independent films. It was founded in 1994 by Tom Rosenberg and Ted Tannenbaum in Beverly Hills. During its history, the company has released about 50 feature films, most of which were made in the genre of horror and thriller films. The studio became especially famous after the Oscar-winning film “Million Dollar Baby”.

Meaning and history

Lakeshore Entertainment Group, an American independent film studio, was founded in 1994 by Tom Rosenberg and Ted Tannebaum. Initially, the company was engaged in the production of inexpensive films in the horror and thriller genres, which were quite popular at the time. Since 1997, at Rosenberg’s invitation, the position of president of the company was taken by producer Gary Lucchesi, but this appointment did not affect the policy of Lakeshore.

The heyday of Lakeshore Entertainment began in the 2000s, and the main achievement of the studio was the film “Million Dollar Baby”, released in 2004 and won the Oscar for 2005 as Best Motion Picture of the Year. Since then, the company has released several quite worthy and popular movies each year.

Later, Lakeshore began to expand and grow, launching its own music label and, in 2013, a television division. In 2015, Lakeshore Entertainment launched Off the Dock, a digital studio targeting a YouTube audience.

In addition to Million Dollar Baby, other notable movies released by the company over the years are Autumn in New York, Runaway Bride, Emily Rose’s Six Demons, Another World, and Adrenaline. In March 2019, Lakeshore put its 300-title film library up for sale, which sold for nearly $200 million in October of that year.

The Lakeshore Entertainment logo, designed in 1994, hasn’t been changed for more than two decades. It was quite a laconic black-and-white composition, based on the combination of a solid emblem, depicting a jumping silhouette of a kid, and a two-leveled lettering, executed in the uppercase of a slightly slanted modern sans-serif typeface with distinctive contours of the characters. The top level of the wordmark was written in a large size, while the bottom “Entertainment” part was significantly smaller.

The bold and distinctive lettering from the primary logo of the Lakeshore Entertainment company is set in the uppercase of a modern sans-serif typeface, which looks somewhat similar to such commercial fonts as ITC Eras Book Bold or PMN Caecilia Sans Text Heavy Oblique, with some modifications.

As for the color palette of the Lakeshore Entertainment visual identity, it is super laconic and strict — black-and-white, which is the most elegant and timeless combination possible.
