Cara is a social networking and portfolio platform for artists. The users can keep a feed of their drawings. It is also possible to collect a full-fledged portfolio, so the application becomes a kind of virtual showcase of artistic works. From its creation, Cara positioned itself as a place to which AI is forbidden. A special AI detector does not allow works created using AI to the Cara platform. The creators also cooperated with the Glaze service, guaranteeing users that all content posted on the platform is protected from the use of neural networks. As of now, this is the only platform of its kind.
Meaning and History
Photographer Jingna Zhang and a group of engineers and co-authors (SAND Lab at the University of Chicago) developed Cara. It was created to help artists, illustrators, photographers, and designers find customers, fans, colleagues, and like-minded people for collaborations. In early 2024, artists began to increasingly switch from Meta to Cara. This change followed an announcement that Meta used public posts to train AI models. In a little more than a week, Cara’s user base grew from less than 100,000 to 700,000 profiles, rising to the top of the app store ranking.
What is Cara App?
Cara is a social network of artists with an interface very similar to that of Instagram and X (formerly Twitter). The difference is that this application is designed as a digital portfolio that allows users to publish their artwork and communicate with colleagues, followers, and art lovers.
2024 – Today
The logo of the platform is minimalistic and consists of only text. The first letter is capitalized and underlined. Given that the letter “C” is often used on its own to represent the app, the emphasis is well understood. Right next to the name, the logo currently has “beta” printed using a finer, smaller font and all lowercase characters. The black color of the logo and its simplicity give it a timeless look and do not limit the artists in the direction of their creativity.
Font and Color
The creators chose to go for a black color palette. This is a classic choice that gives the logo a formal and timeless appearance.
The font used in the logo also has an elegant and classic style with sans-serif characters and clean lines. It resembles Neue Haas Grotesk Text Pro 75 Bold by Linotype and Neue Helvetica eText Pro 75 Bold by Linotype.
