A futuristic, 18-story sphere building is a symbol of the park and a highlight of its World Celebration part. It houses a History Museum that focuses on human communication. Space exploration, science, intergalactic adventures, and technology are part of World Discovery. The visitors have a chance to sit in a simulator that takes to Mars or the Earth’s orbit. There are also rides for nature and travel lovers. The largest area of the park is dedicated to World Showcase. It is a place where one can dive into the culture, traditions, cuisine, and architecture of over ten countries. In the park, there is something for the whole family. Just like any theme park, it has cafes, restaurants, and souvenir stores.

Meaning and History

Epcot Logo history

The Epcot Center was opened back in 1982. Walt Disney wanted to create a futuristic city for twenty thousand visitors. In fact, the full name is Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow and was coined by the founded back in 1966. Originally, it was planned as a perfect city with revolutionary technology. After Walt Disney’s death, it was decided to turn it into an entertainment center. Epcot managed to stay popular even today. Epcot is considered a third most popular theme park in the country and sixth in the world.

Epcot is one of the four theme parks of the Walt Disney World Resort. It is dedicated to technological innovations and familiarization with culture and traditions of other countries. Although there is plenty of excitement, Epcot is a great destination for educational purposes.

1977 – 1982

These are logo prototypes that the company considered as the center was being developed. Although they inspired the future logos, these were never actually used by Disney. Many versions had round elements, which were meant to represent the world of the future. It should be noted that originally, the part was developed as two different parks, and each had a distinctive logo designed for it.

1982 – 1994

Designed by Norm Inouye, this logo was used when the park was opened. It features “EPCOT Center” printed in all caps and split between two strokes. The inscription uses a rounded font and has some of the characters flow one into another, reflecting the representation of different cultures in one place. To the left, there is a flower-like symbol formed from five rings with a globe in the center, which further supports the idea of interconnectedness. Originally, there were only three overlapping circles that were meant to represent Business, Nations, and Disney.

1994

This logo was created for the Epcot ’94 convention. It has “Epcot” printed in lowercase letters with the first character capitalized. The inscription is done in a strong, bold font with the characters closely spaced. The year features a fine, sharp font. The color palette was changed to a shade of green.

1995

This version is done in the same manner as the earlier one. The font was changed to a finer, more sophisticated option with pointed, flared terminals. The pumpkin orange attracted the attention and made the logo look energetic and welcoming.

1996

EPCOT Logo 1996

In 1996, the company brought back the logo designed in 1994. It no longer included the year. It had the characters spaced even closer as the letters were stretched horizontally. Despite the introduction of a new logo, this version was in use until the early 2020s.

1996 – 2019

The multicolored logo design shows that the park’s themes of innovation and cultural diversity. It consists of the word “Epcot” printed using a bracketed serif font with the first character capitalized. The first letter is done in purple, while the second is a bright fuchsia pink. The next two characters are stylized as a globe with a ring around it. The ring is done in a bright red, while the globe features a green shade similar to the one seen earlier. The last letter is of a sunny yellow.

2019 – Today

The current branding tends to focus on a cleaner, simpler design. The company changed a multicolored logo to a classic black version. The company took the original version and simplified it. It removed the flower symbol and the word “Center”. What was left is a shortened name

Font and Color

The original logo features a modified version of the Handel Gothic font. the same font is used in the logo presented in 2019. It features bold strokes with rounded, wide characters and straight terminals.
The earliest version uses a black and blue color palette, which gives it a trustworthy logo. It went well with the original innovative and technological direction of the organization. Later, the company experimented with more colorful logos to hint at the entertainment theme at the park. Since 2019, the logo has used only black. It gives it a modern, sophisticated appearance.
