America’s Second Harvest, now known as Feeding America, is the nation’s largest hunger-relief organization. It consists of a network of food banks across the country. Meaning and History

Feeding America was established in 1979 to alleviate hunger. The official organization appeared in Arizona thanks to John Van Hengel, who is often called the pioneer of food banking. In the next few decades, food banks appeared in other parts of the country. The name change from America’s Second Harvest happened in 2008. Today, its reach and number of programs and ways to reach those in need of food have greatly expanded. Moreover, Feeding America also reduces food waste and is a vital organization during times of crisis.

The original logo of the organization is patriotic and has plenty of text. Across the top, it has “America’s Second Harvest” printed in light gray using a sans-serif font. The inscription is aligned to the left. The next two lines say “The Nation’s Food Bank Network”. This part is printed in dark blue color and features the same font, although the characters are not as wide. Centered, there is a checkered tablecloth that resembles an American flag. It is supposed to represent an abundant table and the country where the organization serves people in need.

2008 – Today

This logo is also designed by Siegel & Gale. It features a completely new take on the logo. The name was changed to “Feeding America”. It is done in muted orange and khaki green colors that look warm and welcoming. The name is printed in two lines of the same length. The two “I”s align and are joined, creating a long vertical line separated by color. At the top, it has a branch with leaves. It is supposed to represent growth, hope, and nourishment. Overall, the logo conveys a message of support, hope, and commitment to ending hunger.

Font and Color

The new design includes a vibrant, warm color palette. The orange is used to convey warmth and compassion. The green color is meant to express its mission to foster community well-being, growth, and a healthier future by combating hunger.
The original logo is done using a bold and condensed font with a strong, uniform appearance similar to the Graft Condensed Bold font and Fectron font. Relatively recently, it switched to a clean, modern, sans-serif font, emphasizing clarity and trustworthiness. It resembles the Eurydice font. The characters are evenly spaced, with consistent stroke widths, giving it a strong appearance.
