Meaning and History
Google Workspace roots go back to 2006, when Google launched Google Apps for Your Domain. The service was renamed Google Apps for Business the next year and later shortened to Google Apps. The service offered new tools as the user’s needs changed. Google rebranded Google Apps as G Suite in 2016. It continued to introduce new features, tools, and improved integrations. At the end of 2020, G Suite was renamed Google Workspace. Its ability to stay flexible and meet current requirements allowed Google Workspace to be a leading cloud-based productivity suite worldwide.

2006 – 2010
This logo shows the earliest version of the Google Workspace. It consists of awell-recognized Google logo with “Apps” printed right underneath. This second line is done in light gray using a simple sans-serif font that is significantly smaller than the lettering in the Google logo. The use of the Google logo ensured that the services are instantly associated with a respected company.
2009 – 2010
The logo was updated when the service was rebranded. Now, the word “Apps” is placed right next to the Google logo. It is still printed using a light gray color. The font, though, has been changed to a finer font. The lettering is also about the same size as in the logo next to it. The enlarged inscription shows that the service has grown significantly in recognition and significance for the company.
2010 – 2013
This version does not significantly differ from the earlier logo. The only difference is a slightly altered Google logo. It no longer has a shadow and features a brighter color palette. This change was global for the Google corporation, so the update is understandable.
2013 – 2015
The new name prompted the creation of a new logo. It was not significantly different from the logo seen previously. The “Apps” portion was replaced with “Apps for Business”. The font for this portion was also updated, although it remained quite recognizable. It is bolder to match the bold strokes of the logo next to it.
2015 – 2016
Service renaming prompteda logo update once again. Just like in previous cases, the update was quite minimal. The most notable update is the new name – Apps for Work. It is printed using a very similar font but a darker shade of gray.
2016 – 2020
This is probably the most significant change to the logo so far. Instead of the full name, Google was replaced with a “G” that is done in the signature colors of the brand in a prototype version, as well as a colored logo version. The word “Suite” is printed in charcoal black using a bold, sans-serif font. The logo looked fresh and more modern.
2020 – Today
Designed by Wolff Olins, this logo stayed true to the overall branding. It features the full Google logo with “Workspace” printed in the same dark gray color as in multiple other versions. The font choice also has not changed since the earlier version, which further enhanced the recognition of the service.
