BeReal is a French social platform that promotes authenticity and, in a way, serves as an anti-social network. It does this by giving the users two minutes to share the reality at any random moment. This way, everyone who publishes what they are doing here and now can see everyone else’s similar posts. Unfortunately, some found a way around it and open the “Post now” notification only when they have a perfect moment to capture.

Meaning and History

The platform was founded in 2020, but it gained popularity only two years later. The latter was largely due to the 30 million invested by the Andreesen Horowitz and Partners fund. Partners, Alexis Barreyat and Kevin Perreau, started on the project in 2019. They promoted their platform as not yet another social network. In 2023, BeRealbecameoneofthemostdownloadedappsontheAppStoreandGooglePlay. As of right now, the social network has over 50 million active users. The company was bought by Voodoo, a French company, in 2024 for €500 million.

What is BeReal?
Just like the name says, BeReal is about being yourself and capturing the real moments to share with others. It does not have filters or hashtags, and the photos disappear 24 hours later. BeReal promotes itself as a more authentic and sincere social network than Instagram or even TikTok.

2020 – Today

BeReal Logo

BeReal features a simple design with the platform name printed in black. Both words are capitalized but printed without spacing in-between. The designer chose a modern, sans-serif font with clean strokes and a combination of straight and diagonal cuts. It is notable that the name has a square dot at the end. The overall aesthetic is clean and straightforward, reflecting the app’s focus on genuine, unfiltered momentsinstead of a number of likes or monetization.

Font and Color

The black color palette not only looks timeless and sophisticated but also shows that there is no need to perfect the images shared on the platform.
The logo uses a sans-serif, bold font similar to Texta Heavy. or Corporative Sans Bold font. It has consistent stroke thickness and straight, clean lines that create a modern aesthetic.
