The original Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets logo was designed in 1938 and stayed with the athletic program for almost thirty years. It was contoured in black geometric serif capital letter “T” overlapped by an enlarged image of a hornet in black and yellow, and accompanied by a solid yellow lettering inscribed into the contoured character. It was a very balanced and bright badge with the square geometric balanced by a smooth graphical element with sharp details.

It was a stylized GT abbreviation in a sleek modern geometric sans-serif typeface with the extended characters merged through the tail of the “G” and the left part of the “T”s horizontal bar. The letters had solid yellow bodies and a bright blue outline.
