1987 – 1994

The logo of Georgia State Panthers, designed in 1987, looked super elegant and sleek, with the contoured head of a roaring panther inscribed into a banner with a horizontally striped pattern. The burgundy and white composition was accompanied by a bold serif “Panthers” wordmark, written on the right from the graceful neck of the wild cat.

1994 – 2002

Although the panther on the 1993 Georgia State Panthers logo was utterly cartoonish and did not look like a real sports logo, it was used for three years.

2002 – 2009

The logo features the bold, capitalized words “GEORGIA STATE” in a strong, blocky red font with a subtle 3D effect and a white outline, emphasizing sturdiness and presence. The typeface is reminiscent of classic collegiate apparel, fostering a sense of community and school spirit. Beneath the text, a stylized panther head, rendered in a rich shade of blue with sharp white teeth and a hint of a red tongue, conveys the fierceness and competitive nature often associated with sports teams. 2009 – 2012

Another version of the Georgia State Panthers athletic program was introduced in 2009 and stayed active for almost three years. It was a dark blue and black badge with the aggressive image of a panther accompanied by a banner with a two-leveled lettering, written in solid blue capitals of a modern sans-serif typeface with a delicate white outline and a thick red horizontal bar at the bottom.

2012 – 2015

The 2012 logo looked more professional. The cartoon character was replaced by a more realistic panther.

2015 – Today

Eventually, in 2015, the current Georgia State Panthers logo was introduced. In comparison with its predecessor, it looks slightly more minimalistic and professional.

Basketball

The men’s basketball team has made five appearances in the NCAA Tournament, two appearances in the National Invitation Tournament, and two appearances in the CollegeInsider.com Tournaments. The women’s team has competed in the NCAA Tournament three times. They have been to the Women’s NIT in 2000 and in AIAW Tournament in 1981.

Baseball

The home arena of the baseball program is at Georgia State’s Panthersville sports complex. The program fielded in 1956 is currently coached by Brad Stromdahl.
