1979 – 1983

The very first logo of the athletic program from Florida Atlantic University was designed at the end of 1980 and featured an incredibly cute drawing of an owl, executed in smooth blue strokes, placed on a plain white background and accompanied by an arched inscription with the full name of the university, written in the uppercase of a simple medium-weight sans-serif typeface, in the same shade of blue.

1983 – 1989

The redesign of 1983 has significantly changed the concept of the Owls logo, making it more strict and strong. The only thing that was left from the previous version is the blue and white color palette. The badge is now drawn in a change of a classy roundel with the lowercase FAU abbreviation in the center and the full name of the university written in the uppercase around the frame of the medallion.

1989 – 1993

In 1989 the logo of the Florida Atlantic University was strengthened and intensified. All the changes were made to the frame of the roundel — it was painted in solid blue, while the lettering turned white. The inscription got shortened, and now there was enough space in the frame to make the characters bolder and wider. This logo stayed active for only four years.

2000 – 2005

The old Florida Atlantic Owls logo, which was adopted in 1994, featured an owl with its wings spread. The creature looked as if it was going to attack. The text “FAU” in red was placed on the forefront.

2005 – 2018

Another version of the Florida Atlantic Owls logo was introduced in 2005 and became a basis for following redesigns. The new badge features a horizontally oriented oval shape with the image of an owl inside. The wide-spread wings of the bird are repeated in the stylized “FAU” abbreviation, placed on top of the composition. The image is brightened up by a narrow red ribbon with the bold white “Florida Atlantic” inscription on it.

2018 – 2023

The redesign of 2018 has removed the red ribbon from the composition and changed its central part. The image of a flying owl with elongated wide-spread wings was replaced by just the head of the bird, and its stylized red eyebrows became the brightest color accents now. This version of the badge stayed active for only five years.

2023 – Today

In 2023 the Florida Atlantic Owls logo got simplified even more. The top part of the badge with the stylized FAU abbreviation drawn with the owl wings on the sides was completely removed, and just the clean horizontally stretched oval with the owl’s head remained on the logo. This part stayed absolutely untouched and fully repeated the owl from the previous badge.

Football

The team has been the Sun Belt Conference co-champions one time. In 2017, they became the Conference USA champions. They also boast three postseason bowl appearances and one appearance in the 2003 I-AA Playoffs.

Baseball

The history of the university’s baseball team started in 1981. In 2002, the Owls won their only Super Regional. They have won eleven regionals, six Regular Season Conference Championships, and two Conference Tournament Championships.
