Eastern Washington Eagles Logo PNG
Eastern Washington Eagles is quite a small athletic program, composed of just twelve men’s and women’s teams, which compete in the first division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association in such sports disciplines as Basketball, Tennis, Football, Cross Country, and several more. However, the program has a super powerful visual identity, which has always been based on a stylized image of an eagle.
Meaning and history
While the Eastern Washington Eagles logo features a very popular symbol seen in a variety of other logotypes, the designer has managed to make it look unique and create a clear link with the athletic program.
1980 – 2000
The logo, designed for the Eastern Washington Eagles athletic program in 1980, looked like a badge of a large reputable corporation and stayed in use for almost twenty years. It was quite a laconic composition in intense red and white, with the elegant serif “EWU” abbreviation written across a vertically oriented rectangular badge with softened angles, with its top part decorated by a white silhouette of an eagle’s head.
2000 – 2023
The redesign of 2000 has introduced a super cool image for the Eastern Washington Eagles sports teams. It was a stylized geometric eagle in black, with the red custom geometric “EWU” characters inscribed into the wings and the tail of the bird. The emblem was drawn on a plain white background without any additional elements. This badge stayed unchanged for almost two decades.
2023 – Today
In 2023 the stylish and recognizable eagle emblem was slightly refined. The contours and shapes were kept untouched, and just the shade of red was changed to a lighter and more intense one. In the new scheme, the modern and powerful emblem started looking even more eye-catching and strong.
Basketball
The men’s team has competed in two NCAA Tournaments and in one National Invitation Tournament. Their head coach is Shantay Legans. The women’s team has appeared in the NCAA Tournament only once. They have made the WNIT three times.
Football
The Eagles compete in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision and belong to the Big Sky Conference. They have won one national championship in the FCS and 26 conference championships since 1901. Their home arena, Roos Field, is known as the only stadium in college football covered with a red surface.
