1965 – 1989

Until the end of the 1980s, Detroit Titans were using the official emblem of their university as their logo. It was a solid red roundel, slightly expanded horizontally, with the classy white lettering and an enlarged white lowercase “D” in an old-style hand-written font.

1989 – 1993

The redesign of 1989 introduced the first official logo for the athletic program of the University of Detroit Mercy. It was a vertically oriented rectangular badge in blue and white with the image of a Roman legionnaire contoured in the center of the badge, and the white lettering written across solid blue rectangles forming the frame of the logo.

1993 – 2008

In 1993, the team adopted an emblem featuring the lettering “UDM Titans” in two lines. The word “UDM” was by far larger than “Titans.” Above the name of the team, a white helmet with the red trim could be seen.

2008 – 2015

The following Detroit Titans logo, which was unveiled in 2008, depicted a sword and a shield. The lettering “Detroit Titans” could be seen in the forefront.

2015 – 2016

In 2015 a couple of modifications were made to the Detroit Titans logo. First of all, the additional lettering from the top part of the banner was shortened to just “Detroit”, hence the characters grew larger and gained more space in between. Secondly, the color palette of the badge gained calmer shades of blue and red, making the image look softer and more friendly.

2016 – Today

The redesign of 2016 has played with the color palette of the Detroit Titans again, darkening up the red, and adding more burgundy shade to it. Now the new red hue the blue strokes also started looking brighter, and the contrast between the colors became stronger, creating a more professional look of the logo, full of confidence and strength.

Basketball

Both the men’s and women’s basketball teams compete in the NCAA Division I as members of the Horizon League. Their home arena is Calihan Hall. The men’s team made it to the Sweet Sixteen in 1977. Their head coach is Mike Davis. The women’s team appeared in the NCAA Tournament once.

The bold and stable lettering from the primary logo of Detroit Titans is written in two completely different fonts: a designer serif with interesting contours of some elements, and a clean lightweight sans-serif for the “Detroit” part, which looks somewhat similar to Protrakt Variable. As for the “Titans”, its font is based on a classy geometric serif, which is pretty similar to FF Flava Regular or Bloque Layer 1.
