Mimaki is a Japanese manufacturer of industrial inkjet printers, cutting plotters, and inks. It performs all the stages, from product design and development to marketing and maintenance. It was established in 1975 as a private limited company and opened its first Tokyo sales office at Ueno four years later. Some of the most notable events of the last decade have been the creation of Mimaki (Thailand) CO., LTD. and Mimaki Vietnam CO., LTD in 2018 and 2023, respectively.
Meaning and history
The Mimaki logo has a modern and techy feel. It also hints at the sphere in which the company works and conjures up images of a printing house. It partly results from the “M” made up of two identical elements, as if they’ve been just typed, but other glyphs somehow support it.
1975 – Today
The company has been consistent in its visual brand identity for quite a long time. The current Mimaki logo showcases the name of the company in a custom type. The color makes the logo of the Japanese company Mimaki Engineering energetic and eye-catching, while the typography provides an individual touch. One of the distinctive glyphs is the initial “M” formed by two identical arrowheads. The “a” is also unique and dynamic due to the fresh shape of its body and the gap. The “K” combines the shape of a capital letter with the size of a lowercase one.
Colors
The benefits of red in logotypes have been shown by various scientific studies. It is the color that is often chosen among others because of its positive emotional effect, and it also has been proven to attract attention and activate the parasympathetic nervous system.
Taking all this into consideration, it is only natural that the design forces behind the Mimaki logo have chosen this color.
