A popular manufacturer of household appliances, Hotpoint was founded in 1911. It belongs to Beko Europe and Haier. In 2001, Hotpoint acquired Italian company Indesit. In 2007, Indesit joined forces with Ariston to create the Hotpoint-Ariston brand. In late 2008, Indesit purchased the final quota of Hotpoint shares, but it was only in 2011 that Indesit started to replace the names Ariston and Hotpoint Ariston with the brand name Hotpoint.
Meaning and history
What made the designers’ task difficult was the need to merge two different brand identities into one. To that end, they opted for a simple black and white palette. The color noise wasn’t the only issue, though, as if to make it worse, both the wordmarks were long. The outcome of the designers’ work is a balanced structure that is perfectly legible and conveys its message.
2007 – Today
The Hotpoint-Ariston logo is a combination of the two companies’ wordmarks – the Hotpoint logo on the top and the Ariston logo under the separation line.
The monochrome palette of the logo successfully unites two brands in one. White typeface and underline on a black background make the typefaces of the wordmarks look if not similar, then perfectly complementing each other.
The Hotpoint typeface is smoother and has more rounded lines, while the Ariston lettering is sharp and bold.
