Candy is a European brand of major household appliance manufacturer. The company, which was established in 1945, is the pioneer on the Italian washing machines  market. Today Candy operates all over the globe and is one of the leaders in its segment.

Meaning and history

Candy Logo history

Candy isn’t the kind of company that often experiments with its visual brand identity. Having introduced a cursive logo with a pronounced “C” in 1945, the manufacturer used it for almost half a century, with only a single 6-year exception. All this makes the 2000 and 2024 redesigns all the more meaningful.

1945 – 1957

The original logo already set a certain standard for everything that followed. We can see the customized cursive script with a huge initial “C” and the somewhat unusual tail of the “y.” The design looks pretty minimalistic except for the parallelogram in the background.

1957 – 1964

While a couple of alterations were added here and there, the design doesn’t seem to have improved. The parallelogram, which cluttered the previous version, has grown even bolder. The distinctive “C,” on the contrary, is smaller and less characteristic.

1964 – 1970

The logo went through a complete overhaul. It seems the designers intended to do something as different from the original as possible. The heavy sans serif type doesn’t look distinctive, but at least it is better legible than the previous versions.

1970 – 1983

The company returned to the previous cursive logo but removed the parallelogram. The light blue color creates an impression of something clean and clear, which is great for a company specializing in consumer electronics and helps to keep houses clean.

1983 – 1993

The parallelogram made a proud return. This time, the wordmark is supplemented by three icons, featuring a snowflake, a flame, and a tub. While this logo tells more about the company it belongs to, it’s also more cluttered.

1993 – 2000

The brighter shade of blue has made the wordmark a bit more eye-catching. The icons disappeared. Other than that, the design is almost a copy of its predecessor from 1957.

2000 – 2024

The Candy logo is light, vivid and playful. It’s custom italicized typeface is simple and elegant and looks friendly due to its form and light blue color palette.

Candy is known for its washing machines, and the first color associated with its industry segment is blue. The clean and fresh color reflects the brand’s products quality and technologies. The bright blue letters are shadowed, which give a 3D effect to the nameplate, especially when it is placed on a white background.

Candy became synonymous to washing machines in Europe, and its logo is highly recognizable across many countries.

Candy was named after a popular song of the 1940s, which was later covered by Nat King Cole.

2024 – Today

Candy Logo

This is probably the most daring update after the 1964 one. There seems to be almost nothing in this logo that reminds us of the old one. Who knows, maybe that’s for the better – the update looks modern, sleek, and minimalistic. What makes the design distinctive are the unexpected asymmetrical rounded edges of the “A” and “Y.”

Font and color

Candy Font

The main element of the Candy logo is, of course, its color. The bright sky-blue shade makes the thick and massive letters of the uppercase italicized logotype look lighter and more delicate.

The Candy wordmark is executed in a custom typeface, with the large letters slanted and softened. The first three letters are also connected to each other, white the last two are set on a small space in between them. The custom font of the Candy lettering is probably based on one of the following typefaces: Sequel 100 Wide 96, Benzin Extra Bold, or Rifton Italic.

The bright blue on white, the Candy color palette, stands for lightness, easiness, and loyalty of the brand. It is also instantly associated with cleanliness, which makes sense, as Candy is mostly known as the washing machine brand.
