BBK is a Chinese corporation, an umbrella brand for several popular sub-brands in different segments of consumer electronics market, mostly smartphone and TV. The company was established in the 1990s by Duan Yongping.
Meaning and history
It doesn’t look like BBK Electronics has ever wanted an out-of-the-box logo. Vice versa, their visual brand identity seems to imply that it’s a reliable manufacturer, and you shouldn’t expect any surprises from it — a pretty appealing promise from an electronics company.
What is BBK?
BBK is the name of a Chinese consumer electronic items manufacturer, which was established in the middle of the 1990s. Today the company owns several sub-brands in different segments of the market and is considered one of the largest suppliers in its country and internationally.
1995 – 1998
The original logo strongly resembles the elliptical logo Samsung introduced in 1993. Samsung positioned its ellipse at an angle, while BKK Electronics opted for a strict horizontal arrangement. While no one can trademark an ellipse, it’s very likely that the BBK logo designers somehow took into consideration the way their successful rival’s brand identity looked and decided to stay on the safe side.
1998 – 2023
The BBK logo is a graphically executed wordmark. Its bold custom typeface is more an image than lettering. Each “B” is divided in 3 parts, while “K” is sharp and solid.
The bright blue is the main logo color. With the bold letters of the wordmark, the blue color reflects the brand’s stability and strength and gives its consumers a sense of reliability and high quality of the brand’s products.
Being more of a corporate logo, BBK is a perfect icon to unite several company’s brands. Oppo and Vivo are two major smartphone brands in Asia, owned by BBK. The company also owns Oneplus and Realme brands.
Font and Color
The stylized heavy lowercase inscription from the primary badge of BBK is set in an extra-bold sans-serif typeface with massive characters featuring interesting sharp details in the negative space. The closest font to the one, used in this insignia, is Fuel Extended Bold Italic.
As for the color palette of the BBK visual identity, it is set in gradient shades of blue, which go from light to medium, creating a clean and fresh image, and reflecting such qualities of the brand as reliability, expertise, stability, and trustworthiness.
